Representative Mike Garcia (CA-25) voted in support of a bill that would protect the Rim of the Valley. The bill would expand the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area to include Rim of the Valley and as a result protect the area from further disruption.
“California is home to some of the most scenic nature preserves and hiking trails in America,” said Garcia. “It is vital that we do what we can to protect the land for generations to come. That is why I am proud to vote to protect Rim of the Valley from CEMEX and California’s disastrous High-Speed rail project.” In 2015, Rim of the Valley was identified as stretching from the Simi Hills and Santa Susanna Mountains to the Verdugo Mountains and continuing to the San Gabriel Mountains. This bill would help protect these lands from proposed state projects, including the CEMEX mining location and the California High-Speed Rail. Earlier this week, Garcia co-sponsored a bill that would prohibit the use of federal funding for California’s high-speed rail projects. |
