Mike Garcia announces 2021 Congressional Art Competition Winner: Olivia Moon


“Muted: Broken System” by Olivia Moon, William S. Hart HS, grade 11

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Mike Garcia (CA-25) announced that Olivia Moon, a junior at William S. Hart High School in Santa Clarita, has been selected as the winner of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition for California’s 25th District. Olivia’s painting, “Muted: Broken System,” was selected by a panel of five independent judges. Olivia’s work will be sent to Washington, D.C. where it will hang in the halls of Congress.

“I want to congratulate Olivia on this great achievement,” said Garcia. “Olivia’s impressive oil painting will now be seen by Members of Congress and visitors from across the country and world when they come to visit the U.S. Capitol. Olivia should be very proud of this accomplishment.”

Garcia also announced the second and third place winners:

  • Second Place: “Look at Yourself” by Yeajin Yoo, Valencia High School, grade 11
  • Third Place: “Eyes of Innocent” by Meggie Mosser, Trinity Classical Academy, grade 12

“The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity for young Californians interested in art and I am grateful to all of the students who participated this year,” said Garcia. “I want to thank all the students, teachers, and families who made this year’s competition possible. I also want to thank the five independent judges from California’s 25th District who provided their expertise and reviewed all of the artwork submitted to this year’s competition.”
