Today, Representative Mike Garcia (CA-25) released the following statement after he joined the Bipartisan State and Local Tax (SALT) Caucus as a Founding Member. The bipartisan caucus will fight in Congress to ensure that the unfair SALT deduction cap is repealed, and that hardworking Americans are able to keep more of their hard-earned money. “I am honored to be a Founding Member of the Bipartisan SALT Caucus and work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to repeal the unfair SALT deduction cap,” said Garcia. “The SALT deduction cap unfairly punishes hardworking Californians who are already punished by the state’s ridiculously high taxes. I am committed to working to remove the unfair SALT deduction cap, which is why in addition to serving on this caucus, I introduced H.R. 202 and cosponsored H.R. 613 – both of which would repeal the SALT deduction cap. I look forward to working in a bipartisan manner to help pass legislation to remove the SALT deduction cap so that hardworking families across our nation, and especially in California’s 25th District, can keep more of their hard-earned money.” Since day one, repealing the SALT deduction cap has been one of Garcia’s top priorities in Congress. In California, a middle-class married couple can quickly hit the $10,000 SALT deduction cap if they both work and own a home. Removing the cap would put thousands of dollars of people’s hard-earned money back in their pockets. Garcia introduced his first piece of legislation H.R. 202, the State and Local Tax (SALT) Fairness Act at the beginning of the 117th Congress. His bill was the first bill introduced in the 117th Congress that would repeal the SALT deduction cap. Click here to read more on Garcia’s bill to remove the SALT deduction cap.
