We lost 80 [constituents] to fentanyl poisonings this last year in my district alone. This is a really big problem. The most [fentanyl-related deaths] in LA County, so we’ve got to work overtime on [addressing] this [crisis].”

“The goal [of my fentanyl legislation] is enforcement and awareness. The word ‘poisonings’ in the Combatting Fentanyl Poisonings Act is very important. Most of the people who die from fentanyl don’t realize they’re taking fentanyl. In the case of Mr. Puerta’s son, Daniel, he thought he was taking an oxycontin pill and it turns out it was made out of fentanyl…These are poisonings. These aren’t overdoses.
