Rep. Mike Garcia: Honoring Veterans and Fighting for Accountability This Veterans Day

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, on Veterans Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have selflessly answered our nation’s call to serve. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have stood on the front lines of freedom—from the beaches of Normandy to the mountains of Afghanistan, and everywhere in between. They fought for our values, our liberties, and our way of life, often at great personal cost.

As a former Navy fighter pilot, I’ve had the privilege of serving alongside some of the most courageous individuals I’ve ever known. These men and women don’t serve for recognition or accolades—they do it because they believe in something bigger than themselves: the idea that freedom is worth defending, no matter the cost.

But their sacrifices don’t stop when the uniform comes off. Many veterans carry the scars of their service, whether visible or invisible. Veterans Day also reminds us that the transition back to civilian life can be tough, and too often our veterans face unnecessary roadblocks when seeking the care and benefits they’ve earned. That’s where we have to step up.

Since taking office, I’ve made it my mission to fight for our veterans every single day. My team and I have closed over 600 veteran casework files, cutting through red tape and securing the benefits our veterans have earned. But supporting our veterans isn’t just about fixing individual cases—it’s about demanding accountability across the board. That’s why I’ve championed legislation like the Veterans Benefits Continuity and Accountability Act, which saved benefits for 7 million veterans and enforces maximum oversight and transparency for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans shouldn’t have to fight a second battle at home to get the care and support they deserve, and I’ll never stop working to hold the system accountable for delivering on its promises. Because when someone steps up to serve this country, it’s our duty to ensure they’re supported long after their mission ends.

This Veterans Day we should also pause to say thanks to the families who’ve supported our heroes every step of the way, your resilience and love are just as vital to this nation’s defense.

Finally, I want to personally thank all those who have served. Your courage, your dedication, and your sacrifice have kept America strong. Your sacrifices have built and sustained the greatest nation in the world. Your service matters. It is my honor to fight for you in Congress, just as you fought for all of us.

God bless our veterans, their families, and the United States of America.
