Representative Mike Garcia (CA-25) welcomed his friend and fellow naval aviator, Representative Jake Ellzey (TX-06), to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Garcia and Ellzey both attended the U.S. Naval Academy and served together as fighter pilots in the U.S. Navy’s Tophatters Squadron from 2001 to 2005. Garcia and Ellzey flew in combat operations together during the Global War on Terror. Garcia was Ellzey’s wingman. “I am excited to welcome my friend and fellow naval aviator, Jake Ellzey, to the U.S. Congress. From flying combat missions together over Baghdad to now fighting together in the Halls of Congress, I’m excited to fight alongside my fellow wingman, Jake, once again. I know Jake will serve his constituents well, just as he has served this nation throughout his life,” said Garcia. Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) also welcomed Ellzey on the House Floor and spoke of Garcia and Ellzey’s service together in the U.S. Navy. “Mike Garcia and Jake actually served our nation earlier before they served in this body. They flew F/A-18’s off an aircraft carrier into Iraq, they were brothers, and now they are back together serving their nation and putting it fourth…” said Republican Leader McCarthy. “They both graduated from the Naval Academy. Served their nation. And continue to serve again. This is a good day in this House." While in the Navy, Garcia flew over 30 combat missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom in the skies above Baghdad, Fallujah, and Tikrit. Read more about Garcia and Ellzey here. |
