Reps. Garcia and Budd Send Letter to CDC on Vaccine Distribution

Representatives Mike Garcia (R-CA) and Ted Budd (R-NC) sent a letter to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Robert Redfield calling on the CDC to issue guidance to states like California and New York where burdensome state and local vaccine regulations are resulting in wasted COVID-19 vaccines.

“With hundreds of millions of Americans yet to be vaccinated, it’s unthinkable that unused doses are going to waste,” the lawmakers wrote.

The letter is in response to reports nationwide, including from California, that vaccines are being allowed to expire because of unclear state and local rules and regulations.

“Reopening America should be the top priority of our government. In order to do that, we must encourage state and local officials to cut red tape and ensure that unused vaccine doses are not going to waste. We urge you to do everything in your power to ensure that more Americans are able to be vaccinated as quickly as possible,” the lawmakers wrote.
