Representative Mike Garcia (CA-25) spoke at the Santa Clarita Valley’s Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Eternal Valley Mortuary in Newhall, California. Garcia paid tribute to the fallen and recognized the families of fallen soldiers who attended the ceremony.
“On this day more than any other, it’s imperative that we come together as a nation and remember those who have given all, to pay respect and honor their families and to help us all heal a little,” said Garcia. Speaking through the lens of a fallen soldier, Garcia emphasized that the best way to memorialize our fallen heroes is to love the country they gave their lives for. Rep. Mike Garcia honored fallen soldiers at the ceremony.
As a former U.S. Naval Aviator, Garcia expressed his pride in serving and told stories of his time on active duty. Garcia went on to explain the importance of unity, especially during uncertain times. “I don’t care if you’re a Giants fan or a Dodgers fan. I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican. Treat each other like friends, treat each other like family,” said Garcia. “Remember we are all on the same team. The media, the social media, our adversaries, and even some of our own politicians will try to divide you. Don’t let them.” Garcia concluded by reading the names of the 13 soldiers killed in Afghanistan last year. “Let’s honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and let’s forever love the nation that they made that sacrifice for,” said Garcia.
